Wacom Intous 4 tablet freezing bug with iMacs!
Recently purchased a new Wacom Intous 4 tablet to use on my 27″ iMac, to replace my 6 year old Wacom tablet that worked with no issues whatsoever. After a day of use I noticed that the Intous 4 would always freeze after a restart from sleep mode on my Apple that never occurred with my old tablet over years of use. I then do Wacom software re-installs, I update all drivers, I check all hardware connections, still the tablet remains frozen. I call Apple support, they say since my perirpherals are all recognized in my System Profiler, and talking to the CPU I am good to go. Aaah now I call Wacom support, they tell me to do everything I already did in terms of fixes, and driver upgrades. The Wacom support staff then tells me its a Apple problem, I inform them that my 6 year old Wacom tablet always had full functionality on my 27″ iMac / OS 10.6.8, then in stronger terms I said how can they release a product that doesn’t work fully. At this point the CSR says that the new Intous 4 can have problems with certain size Apples, he then infers its 27″ iMac’s. I don’t believe him so I search the web forums and low and behold on the Wacom community boards I see that many folks are complaining about this freezing bug and its on many different Wacom products from Cintiq’s to Intous’s.
My word to the wise beware of these new tablet products from Wacom, its a excellent drawing tool, but has serious bugs that need new fixes and drivers from Wacom to fix ASAP. Right now the only fix I found to relieve the frozen tablet after starting from sleep mode is to re-plug the USB cable, very poor user experience to say the least. One more fix with intermittent success to wake the tablet after sleep mode is uncheck “put the hard disk to sleep when possible” in the “Energy Saver Pane” of Apple preferences, but this does not work 100%. Wacom is fumbling the fix for this issue grossly as time goes on.
